Reading is important on so many levels. At Edinburgh University Press it is our mission to connect people and ideas. We do that by making field- defining research available across our journal and book publishing.
But we’re also avid readers across pretty much every genre, covering literary and speculative fiction, economics and biography, and with strong opinions on picture books and young adult from those of us with young people at home.
National Year of Reading
The National Year of Reading 2026 is a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their lives. That could be reading poetry or fiction or finding out more about your hobbies in sport, music or gardening. As an academic publisher we’re embracing the idea that if you’re into it, you can read into it by exploring our books and journals.
Reading at home
This year we’ve finally brought back our book swap. David Swapperfield was forgotten in the post-Covid hybrid world, but we all missed him despite the 20-year-old cookery book and the third (not first, that might have been tempting) volume of Outlander left to languish in his care. We’ve gone virtual this time providing an opportunity to create connections with colleagues whose working days never seem to align and of course the offer of some excellent reading material. I may never know who is dropping the ‘just right’ books into my local Little Free Library, but I will find out who shares my taste at EUP…
Reading with EUP
Keep an eye on our blog and socials throughout the year as we introduce some of our favourite books to the world. Our blog will feature some of our top Edinburgh University Press books – books that we have enjoyed reading and think you might like. We have so much to share from our bookshelves so if you are into it, you can definitely Read Into It.
Reading in the city, and beyond
We’re also planning to take our books out and about. We connect deeply with the history and culture of Edinburgh and Scotland, and we can connect our books to everyday life on campus and throughout the city. Of course, we might also just share some lovely books in gorgeous locations – take a tour with us, add some books to your to-be-read pile and get ready to Read Into It.
